In recent years, the antibody level of chickens has dropped significantly. Everyone only pays attention to the use of antiviral drugs. Many people ignore the fact that vitamins are also very important in the process of poultry breeding, especially the application of vitamin C. Now, I will tell you about vitamin C. What are the important roles in the process of poultry breeding, let us also pay attention to it.

First, let me tell you what Vitamin C is? Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is an acidic polyhydroxy compound containing 6 carbon atoms, with a molecular formula of C6H8O6 and a molecular weight of 176.1. There are two types of naturally occurring ascorbic acid, L-type and D-type, and the latter has no biological activity. Vitamin C is colorless and odorless flake crystals, easily soluble in water but insoluble in fat solvents. It is stable in an acidic environment, and can promote its oxidative destruction when it encounters oxygen, heat, light, and alkaline substances in the air, especially when oxidase and trace amounts of copper, iron and other metal ions are present.

1. Resist the cold. Chickens like suitable temperature and are afraid of cold. The most suitable house temperature for laying hens is 18~25ºC. When the temperature drops below 0ºC, it can protect against cold and keep warm, and increase energy, protein and mineral egg production will be significantly reduced. The low temperature in winter leads to the decline of chicken physique and ovarian performance, reducing egg production or even stopping production. When doing a good job of quality feed for the chicken house, add 300mg of vitamin C per kilogram of diet to enhance physical fitness, increase the chicken's resistance to cold, improve and enhance the ovarian metabolic function, so that the ovarian cells under low energy can continue to be metabolized smoothly , Improve egg production rate.
2. Reduce heat stress. During the hot and high temperature season, chickens are often susceptible to external high temperature stress due to their poor heat dissipation function, which leads to increased body temperature, faster breathing, reduced feed intake, and lower egg production rate. Vitamin C can increase the chicken's resistance to heat stress and disease, improve the chicken's heat tolerance, increase appetite, enhance ovarian metabolism, and increase egg production.
3. Strengthen the physique of the chicks. The chicks are fed 100mg of vitamin C daily, which can improve the metabolism of the chicken body, enhance physical fitness, increase appetite, promote growth and development, and increase survival rate.
4. Improve the insect repellent effect. In the prevention and treatment of intestinal parasites in chickens, the addition of vitamin C can enhance the anti-parasitic effect of the drug and the tolerance of the chicken to anti-parasitic drugs, and promote the faster recovery of the chicken's physique.
5. Assist in the prevention and treatment of diseases. For chicken virus diseases and other diseases, adding vitamin C to the treatment drugs can enhance the efficacy of the drugs, assist the chicken body to overcome the disease, and make the disease heal early.
6. Strengthen the vaccine function. When chickens are vaccinated, vitamin C can be supplemented in time, which will further enhance the immunity of the chickens. During the period of stress, the immune function of the chicken is reduced, and the supplementation of VC will improve the influence of the stress factor on the immunity of the chicken. First, as an antioxidant, VC can damage cell membranes through free radicals, thereby protecting lymphocytes (produce antibodies). Secondly, supplementation of VC will limit the excessive secretion of adrenal steroids and reduce the immune response.
7. Prevent flock pecking addiction. Adding an appropriate amount of vitamin C to the feed can greatly reduce chicken pecking and speed up wound healing.
8. VC promotes the hydroxylation and detoxification of organics or poisons. Vitamin C can enhance the activity of mixed-function oxidases and enhance the detoxification (hydroxylation) process of drugs or poisons.

Seeing this, I believe that everyone has some understanding of the role of vitamin C in chickens. The selection and use of vitamins need to be selected and adjusted according to different types of poultry, ages, seasons, and feeding management methods. While it plays a role, it meets the needs of the chickens at different stages. During the breeding process, both the management work and the choice of drugs are very important.
